Five Common MSK Ultrasound Findings

1. Tendon Tears or Tendinopathy

Ultrasound can reveal partial or full-thickness tears in tendons, such as the rotator cuff or Achilles tendon, as well as chronic overuse injuries like tendinopathy.

2. Ligament Injuries

Damage to ligaments, such as sprains or tears in the knee’s medial collateral ligament (MCL), can be clearly identified.

3. Muscle Strains and Tears

Ultrasound can detect muscle injuries, from mild strains to complete ruptures, helping guide rehabilitation efforts.

4. Joint Inflammation (Synovitis or Effusion)

Swelling within a joint, often due to arthritis or injury, can be easily visualised.

5. Bursitis

Inflammation of the small fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that cushion joints can be diagnosed, helping to differentiate from other causes of pain.

Is an MSK Ultrasound Right for You?

If you’re dealing with joint pain, muscle injuries, or tendon problems, an MSK ultrasound could be a valuable step in your recovery. It’s a quick, safe, and effective way to understand what’s causing your discomfort and get the right treatment plan in place.

Talk to your physiotherapist or doctor about whether an MSK ultrasound scan could help you move better, feel better, and get back to doing what you love.
